Ballet d’Jèrri is a professional dance company founded in 2022 under the artistic direction of Carolyn Rose Ramsay. The company describes itself as Jersey’s national ballet and states it is the Channel Islands’ first professional dance company. It is a registered charity incorporated in Jersey. The company began rehearsals in January 2023 in the Albert Bartlett potato shed in Jersey and started with nine resident dancers. It works in both classical and contemporary dance styles, developing new works that draw on Jersey’s heritage and collaborating with choreographers from around the world and emerging artists.
The company performs in Jersey and tours internationally, having appeared in Guernsey, Paris, and at venues and festivals across Europe. Productions include works by Garrett Smith, Tess Voelker, and resident choreographer Asier Edeso Eguia. Ballet d’Jèrri also runs education and outreach programmes, having worked with more than 1000 children and young people across more than 25 schools. It offers workshops, six-week courses for primary and secondary students, and visits to care homes and community spaces. Its education programme is free to non-fee-paying schools.
