The 2027/28 NBoC2 Apprentice Programme is designed for recent graduates of professional ballet training institutions who are interested in pursuing a career with The National Ballet of Canada. Apprentices are typically between 17 and 21 years of age.
Applications to audition for the 2027/28 nboc2 Apprentice Programme will be accepted from October 1 to December 1, 2026.
Selected applicants will receive a formal invitation to audition by email between December 18 and 26, 2026.
A maximum of 60 candidates will be invited to audition in person for the nboc2 Apprentice Programme at The National Ballet of Canada’s studios in Toronto on Sunday, January 31, 2027.
Please do not make travel arrangements until you have received a formal invitation to attend the audition.
Compensation for apprentices is established under the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between The National Ballet of Canada and the Canadian Actors’ Equity Association (National Ballet of Canada Agreement (NBCA)).
The National Ballet of Canada does not use artificial intelligence to screen, assess or select applicants.
International Audition Pre-Selection Guidelines
Applicants should submit the following materials:
Video: A YouTube or Vimeo link with no introduction or elaborate editing. Female applicants should perform in a leotard and tights; male applicants should wear close-fitting dance attire. The video should include:
A short classical variation drawn from the standard repertoire, performed in pointe shoes by female applicants.
A short contemporary variation demonstrating a range of movement distinct from the classical variation. This may be drawn from repertoire, phrases from classwork or an applicant-created work.
CV: A .pdf, .doc or .docx file that includes your email address, postal address, height, date of birth, citizenship, training and performance experience.
Headshot
Dance photos: Two to three dance photos in .pdf format that clearly show the dancer’s body proportions and line.
Whenever possible, video footage should be filmed at a distance that allows the dancer to be clearly seen. Performance footage is acceptable provided it is high quality and filmed closely enough to clearly show the applicant.
