Studio Wayne McGregor serves as the creative engine for British choreographer and director Sir Wayne McGregor, born in 1970. The organisation encompasses a network of dancers, writers, composers, producers, software engineers, visual artists, and scientists, all engaged in exploring thinking through and with the body. In 1992, McGregor founded Random Dance, which later became Company Wayne McGregor. This ensemble of dancers functions as a laboratory for experimental choreography and holds residency at Sadler’s Wells, London. The company celebrated its 30th year in 2023 and tours across the UK and internationally. McGregor has created over thirty works for the company and has served as Resident Choreographer at the Royal Ballet since 2006.
Studio Wayne McGregor opened its creative arts space at Here East in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in April 2017, becoming the first arts organisation based on the park. The facility includes three dance studios, two of which are among the largest in London. Beyond touring, the organisation supports international commissions across dance, visual arts, film, theatre, and opera. It conducts research examining connections between science, technology, and the arts, and operates programmes including Learning and Engagement initiatives, the FreeSpace programme for mentoring artists, and the SWM Talent Lab supporting emerging freelance dance talent.
