Nicola’s School of Dance was established in 1991 and is led by Principal Nicola Hoar A.I.S.T.D – A.B.A.T.D. The school teaches tap, ballet, modern, and jazz to children from age 3 years, and also offers adult tap classes. Classes follow the syllabuses of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance and the British Association of Teachers of Dance. The school aims for all pupils to take grade and medal examinations annually according to their age and ability.
Pre-school classes for 3- and 4-year-olds introduce ballet and tap. Modern is added from age 5, and jazz and singing become available from age 7. Classes are held at St. Paul’s Church Hall in Woodford Bridge and include levels from pre-primary through Grade 6 in ballet, tap, and modern, as well as street jazz, pointe, show team, and singing classes. The school states that small class sizes allow for personal tuition.
All pupils can participate in annual shows. Senior school students have opportunities to perform in West End shows. Proceeds from shows are sent to Great Ormond Street Hospital. Senior students may receive funding through achievements awards from the JP foundation.
