Stars Stage School was created in 2010 by Principal Joanne Mitchell, who trained and taught at The Wilsoncentre for many years and has danced since age 5. Mitchell is an Associate member of the IDTA. The school operates from Bradford New Church in Shipley and offers dance classes in Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Freestyle following the IDTA examination syllabus.
Classes are available for children from age 3, starting with Beginners Ballet for ages 3–5. Performing Arts classes combine Ballet and Tap in one-hour lessons for children from age 5. Freestyle is offered from age 4, and Modern Jazz from age 5. The school also provides adult classes in Tap and Freestyle. Student courses are available by invitation only for pupils who demonstrate talent, commitment and a positive attitude, with participants required to attend multiple days per week.
The school holds IDTA examinations once a year and reports a 100% pass rate. Two annual shows are staged: a Summer Showcase at the end of the academic year and a Christmas pantomime. Selected pupils represent the school at galas and community events during summer months. Recognition programs include Star of the Month and the Nicki Short Memorial Award.
